anti-ad

You're standing in a bar. Looking at a fairly attractive girl, you're waiting for her to stop talking on her cell phone so that you can approach her and maybe be the one calling that cell phone in the not too distant future. You take a break from ogling her, and the next thing you realize she's standing next to you.

"I'm Jane!" she says to you with a big smile. 'Woot!' you think to yourself, she must've seen me checking her out, I guess I still have some charisma after all.

"How's it going?" you manage to mumble out, maybe she'll think you're fairly drunk and won't care.

"Can I show you my cell phone?" she asks innocently.

This isn't a standard pick-up line, so maybe she isn't you're standard girl, you think to yourself. Being not entirely clever less, you say "Sure, can I put my phone number in there?"

She smiles and says, "You sure can! But check this out, I can also take your picture and put it next to your number if I want." the phone does it's deed and you're nowhere near model-face is now in front of you beaming back a horrible little drunken smile. If you had no sense of humor you would've run away and hid in shame, but humor was one thing someone thought you should arm yourself with, and you let out a laugh.

Fortunately she doesn't laugh too hard with you, just enough. "There are so many cool features about this phone, it's the new t68i from Sony Ericcson. Here have a little wrist bracelet." And at that she slaps a shiny glowing green eighties style spring bracelet across your arm and walks away from your life forever.

What just happened to you, was you were in an advertisement. Not a hidden-camera TV commercial. A real-life advertisement, Sony Ericcson paid that beautiful young lady to come seduce you, talk about her 'new' cell-phone and you  mr. average-single-bar-goer was it's only viewer.

Is there anything wrong with this sort of advertisement? Well not really, they did tell you who it was from. But did you realize it was an advertisement? Did you know she was being paid to talk to you? Would you have still gone through it, knowing what you knew at the end?

Knowledge is power, and this is just the beginning.
